Rosatom and EDF promote large nuclear reactors for India's energy future.

Russian state nuclear firm Rosatom and France’s EDF are advocating for large nuclear power plants (NPPs) as a central element in India’s energy strategy, aiming to boost nuclear capacity from over 8 gigawatts to 100 gigawatts by 2047. They emphasize the efficiency of larger reactors, such as the proposed six 1,650 MW reactors for Maharashtra’s Jaitapur site, to optimize limited suitable locations. Meanwhile, India’s NTPC is set to explore diverse global technologies to ensure cost-effective energy production, targeting 30 GW of nuclear capacity over two decades. This collaboration indicates a strategic commitment to nuclear energy as a key component of India’s future energy landscape.
