Restored HT-2s highlight IAF's legacy during 93rd anniversary celebrations.

During the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) 93rd anniversary celebrations at Hindon Air Base, the restored Hindustan Trainer-2 (HT-2) made its public aerobatic debut, highlighting India’s rich aviation heritage. Developed in the 1950s, the HT-2 symbolizes India’s journey towards self-reliance in defense technology, having trained over 1,000 pilots before its phase-out in the 1980s. The aircraft’s restoration, costing under ₹5 crore, involved sourcing rare parts and reverse-engineering components, showcasing the IAF’s commitment to preserving its legacy. While modern aircraft like Rafales and Su-30MKIs dominated the event, the HT-2’s performance served as a poignant reminder of the foundational milestones of Indian aviation, emphasizing the importance of honoring historical achievements amid technological advancement. This duality of past and present embodies the IAF’s evolution and resilience in contemporary defense contexts.
