President Murmu launches Constitution in Santhali language, promoting indigenous rights.

The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, unveiled the Constitution of India in the Santhali language, written in the Ol Chiki script, during a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on December 25, 2025. This landmark event marks a significant milestone for the Santhali community, enabling them to engage with the Constitution in their native language, thus enhancing their understanding of their rights and duties. The release coincides with the centenary celebration of the Ol Chiki script, emphasizing the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting indigenous languages. The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including the Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, and Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal. The inclusion of Santhali in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution through the 92nd Amendment Act, 2003, reflects India’s dedication to recognizing and supporting its diverse linguistic heritage, which is crucial for fostering unity and social cohesion among its tribal populations across various states.
