Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the Assam Bioethanol Plant and laid the foundation stone for a new polypropylene plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited in Golaghat, Assam, marking a significant boost to Assam’s industrial and energy sectors. These projects, part of a broader Rs 18,000 crore initiative announced for Assam, are aimed at promoting clean energy and reducing the state’s and nation’s dependence on fossil fuels. The bioethanol plant, India’s first bamboo-based facility, exemplifies sustainable energy innovation, while the polypropylene plant is expected to strengthen Assam’s plastic and textile industries, creating employment opportunities and stimulating local economic growth. Earlier, Modi also inaugurated development projects worth over Rs 6,500 crore in Darrang, including a medical college and major infrastructure works such as bridges and roads to enhance connectivity. The Prime Minister emphasized Assam’s strategic role in India’s energy security and economic development, highlighting ongoing efforts to transform the state into a hub for trade, industry, and technology, aligned with the vision of a self-reliant and developed India by 2047. These initiatives reflect a focused approach to bridging historical development gaps in the region and accelerating Assam’s rise as a key driver of national growth.
