PM Modi celebrates Diwali with Bada Khana aboard INS Vikrant, fostering unity in the armed forces.
On October 20, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali aboard INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier, stationed off the coasts of Goa and Karwar. Upholding a tradition spanning over a decade, Modi joined Indian Navy personnel in the festive spirit, warmly calling them family and sharing sweets as part of the celebration. He participated in the traditional Bada Khana feast, fostering unity and camaraderie among crews across ranks. The Prime Minister witnessed an impressive air power demonstration featuring MiG-29K fighter jets performing day and night take-offs and landings, highlighting the Navy’s operational excellence. Modi hailed INS Vikrant as a symbol of Atmanirbhar Bharat and India’s growing defense self-reliance, emphasizing the carrier’s vital role in maritime security. Reflecting on the Navy’s contribution in Operation Sindoor, a precision counterstrike on terror camps in Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, he praised the extraordinary coordination among the three armed services that forced the adversary to surrender. Modi described celebrating Diwali at sea as a unique privilege, likening the ocean’s glow to the lamps lit by brave service members, underlining the strong bond between India’s leadership and its defenders. Commissioned in 2022, INS Vikrant stands as a powerful emblem of India’s maritime strength, national pride, and the spirit of service honored during this special Diwali occasion. This marked Modi’s twelfth Diwali with the armed forces, continuing his decade-long tradition of honoring soldiers, sailors, and airmen across diverse postings.
