Pakistan grants over 2,100 visas to Indian Sikh pilgrims for Guru Nanak Jayanti.
The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has issued over 2,100 visas to Indian Sikh pilgrims for the Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrations scheduled from November 4-13, 2025. This development follows the extension of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor Agreement, renewed for five years in October 2024, ensuring uninterrupted visa-free access to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Pakistan. Indian government approval was given to selected Sikh jathas (pilgrim groups), recommended by state authorities and vetted by the Ministry of External Affairs and Home Ministry. The pilgrimage route includes passage through the Attari-Wagah border, highlighting continued cultural and religious diplomacy despite tense India-Pakistan relations. Delhi’s Sikh leadership expressed gratitude toward the Indian government for facilitating the visit. However, there remain concerns about possible misuse of the pilgrimage for political propaganda by Pakistan. The successful conduct of this event is critical for maintaining the fragile balance of peace and fostering goodwill, given the Kartarpur Corridor’s significance for Sikh pilgrims and the Pakistani Sikh community’s socio-economic welfare.
