Over Rs 800 Crore Gold Smuggled from China Along India’s LAC
An Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation has uncovered a gold-smuggling racket along the India-China Line of Actual Control (LAC), revealing that over 1,000 kg of gold worth Rs 800 crore was illicitly transported to India with alleged involvement from Chinese nationals and locals. The operation, spearheaded by a Tibetan mastermind, relied on cryptocurrency transactions for payments. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) had previously seized 108 kg of gold, leading to further investigations that detained several individuals. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges India faces in securing its borders against such illegal activities, necessitating enhanced vigilance and security measures to protect national interests.
