The Indian government reported to Parliament that approximately 11,152 acres of the nation’s total 18 lakh acres of defense land are currently under encroachment, highlighting ongoing issues in multiple states. Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth noted that significant portions of this land are reserved for military training and infrastructure, despite appearances of being unused. Furthermore, about 8,113 acres are entangled in legal disputes, complicating effective land utilization. The Ministry confirmed its commitment to revising the Defence Acquisition Procedure to streamline equipment procurement processes, essential for enhancing operational readiness and efficiency within the armed forces.
