New Safran MRO facility enhances India's global aviation hub status, says PM Modi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility in Hyderabad, which is poised to bolster India’s status as a global hub for aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO). This facility represents a significant milestone as it is the first MRO center established by a global aircraft engine manufacturer in India, set to service up to 300 LEAP engines annually and creating over 1,000 jobs. In a related development, Safran has committed to a complete transfer of technology for developing a new engine for India’s indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter jet, the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), with an investment of approximately $7 billion. Furthermore, Safran has indicated its readiness to establish a final assembly line for Rafale jet engines in India, contingent on further orders from the Indian Air Force (IAF). These initiatives underscore India’s growing aerospace capabilities, reduce dependence on foreign technology, and enhance domestic employment and supply chain resilience, reflecting the government’s commitment to self-reliance in the defense sector.
