Jaishankar asserts India's trade "red lines" must be honored in US negotiations.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of respecting India’s “red lines” in ongoing trade discussions with the US, acknowledging that current tensions stem from unresolved issues regarding tariffs and trade agreements. He highlighted India’s need for a fair trade understanding with the US, particularly in light of recent increases in tariffs, including those affecting energy imports from Russia. Jaishankar noted that while challenges exist, a substantial portion of the bilateral relationship continues to function effectively. The broader significance of this dialogue lies in India’s strategic need to navigate its trade relations with the US while safeguarding its economic sovereignty and maintaining robust international partnerships.
