ISRO to launch US satellite on LVM3 rocket in December.
ISRO is scheduled to launch BlueBird-6, a US-licensed, next-generation low-earth orbit communication satellite, on December 15, 2025, using its heavy-lift LVM3 (Launch Vehicle Mark-3) rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. BlueBird-6, developed by Texas-based AST SpaceMobile, is the heaviest US commercial satellite to be launched from India, weighing around 6.5 tonnes. The satellite aims to provide extensive cellular broadband coverage across the US and select global markets with its advanced phased array technology. This commercial launch, managed by ISRO’s arm New Space India Limited (NSIL), signifies a strengthening of India’s space launch services in the global commercial market. ISRO Chairman V Narayanan highlighted that this mission reflects growing international confidence in India’s space capabilities as India aims to rival leading spacefaring nations by 2040. The launch marks a strategic milestone in India-US space collaboration and boosts India’s commercial space portfolio. The exact launch date will depend on weather and readiness conditions.
