India's engineering talent vital for Qualcomm's 2nm processor development.
Qualcomm has established India as a pivotal hub for developing its next-generation 2nm processors, harnessing the nation’s largest pool of engineers worldwide to drive design and R&D for advanced smartphone chips. Announced on December 18, 2025, by Qualcomm India President Savi Soin, this initiative leverages the Chennai design center—inaugurated in March 2024 with a ₹180 crore investment—to create intellectual property for Snapdragon platforms, AI, 5G, and Wi-Fi 8 technologies. Partnering with TSMC for mass production starting in 2026, the 2nm system-on-a-chip promises superior performance, energy efficiency, and AI capabilities, aligning seamlessly with India’s Make in India and semiconductor missions, as praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October 2025. This positions India centrally in the global semiconductor value chain, enhancing domestic innovation and competitiveness.
