Indian Army boosts adventure tourism and community livelihoods in Sikkim.

The Indian Army has bolstered community-led adventure tourism in Sikkim’s Yumthang Valley by supplying essential high-altitude adventure equipment, including camping gear and safety tools, to local residents. This initiative aims to enhance sustainable livelihoods and responsible tourism by enabling locals to conduct structured adventure camps, welcoming around 20 to 25 tourists daily. The Army’s support not only strengthens the local economy but also fosters community engagement and environmental stewardship in remote areas. This effort aligns with the Army’s broader outreach programs, such as the Ranbhoomi Darshan initiative, which promotes border-area tourism and reinforces ties between the armed forces and local communities, ultimately enhancing resilience and self-reliance in challenging terrains.
