India Launches Indigenous 4G Network, Joining Global Leaders
In a significant advancement for India’s telecommunications sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated BSNL’s indigenous 4G network, marking India’s entry alongside nations like China and South Korea in manufacturing telecom equipment. This initiative saw the commissioning of over 97,500 mobile 4G towers, built at a cost of approximately Rs 37,000 crore, designed to connect over 20 lakh new subscribers in remote and underserved areas, including 26,700 villages. The cloud-based network is future-ready for seamless upgrades to 5G and includes solar-powered towers, elevating India’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure. This development aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of a Digital India, reinforcing connectivity in rural communities and laying the groundwork for subsequent technological advancements.
