India launches hydrogen-powered vessel service in Varanasi for sustainable mobility.
India has launched its first hydrogen-powered passenger vessel service in Varanasi, marking a significant step towards sustainable waterborne mobility. The vessel, named FCV Pilot-01, operates on a low-temperature Proton Exchange Membrane fuel cell system, emitting only water as a byproduct and aligning with the country’s net-zero emissions goal by 2070. Highlighted by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the initiative supports the Make in India campaign and emphasizes the importance of green technologies in preserving the Ganga River. This development not only enhances indigenous manufacturing and reduces reliance on fossil fuels but also showcases India’s commitment to innovation in eco-friendly maritime transport, paving the way for future projects across national waterways.
