India and China agree to revive trade at Shipki-La crossing.
India and China have reached an agreement to revive traditional border trade via the Shipki-La crossing in Himachal Pradesh, following discussions between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. This initiative, prompted by the Himachal government’s efforts and the Chief Minister’s advocacy, aims to restore trade routes previously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and facilitate the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. The resumption of trade at Shipki-La, alongside the existing routes of Lipulekh and Nathu La, is expected to boost economic, cultural exchanges, and tourism in the region, reflecting a positive step in India-China relations.
