ICG successfully evacuates critically injured Iranian fisherman 1,500 km west of Kochi.

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) recently executed a long-range medical evacuation of a critically injured Iranian fisherman aboard the dhow Al-Owais, located approximately 1,500 km west of Kochi, Kerala. Following a distress call from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Chabahar, Iran, ICG Ship Sachet, returning from an overseas mission, coordinated with the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker MT STI Grace to provide crucial tele-medical first aid. The injured individual, suffering severe injuries from an explosion during fuel transfer operations, is presently receiving medical treatment aboard ICG Ship Sachet as it heads to Goa. This operation not only highlights the ICG’s commitment to maritime safety and humanitarian assistance but also reinforces its role as a reliable search and rescue agency in the Indian Ocean Region, enhancing regional maritime cooperation.
