IATA warns of increasing GPS interference impacting global flights, including India.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) on December 14, 2025, warned of a sharp global rise in GPS spoofing and jamming incidents affecting flights, including at key Indian airports like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Amritsar, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Chennai. IATA Director General Willie Walsh urged pilots to exercise greater vigilance, noting the GPS loss rate per 1,000 flights has climbed to an estimated 59 in 2025 from 31 in 2022, with India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation reporting 1,951 such disruptions nationwide since November 2023. As India’s aviation sector expands rapidly, authorities are enhancing monitoring through the Wireless Monitoring Organisation and contingency procedures to safeguard operations, underscoring the nation’s proactive stance on aviation security amid these evolving challenges.
