Himachal Pradesh’s border tourism has surged 3.5 times following a joint initiative between the state government and the Indian Army, with visitor numbers rising from 21,000 in 2024 to over 70,000 in 2025. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized the need for improved facilities for tourists during a meeting with Army officials, which also reviewed ongoing projects, including the establishment of wind turbine installations in border areas. Additionally, the government has sought to revive trade through strategic passes such as Shipki La, with positive responses from both India and China. The proposed airport at Rangrik is expected to significantly enhance regional tourism and connectivity, further solidifying the area’s strategic importance.
