Government's Mobile Number Verification platform to enhance cybersecurity and boost telecom revenues.
The Indian government is set to launch a Mobile Number Verification (MNV) platform aimed at enhancing cybersecurity and reducing online frauds such as phishing. This initiative will allow banks and financial institutions to verify the ownership of mobile numbers linked to accounts, creating a new revenue stream for telecom operators who will receive fees for each verification request. Although the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has yet to finalize the fee structure following consultations, the platform is expected to significantly bolster trust in digital transactions. This development underscores the government’s commitment to improving cybersecurity measures, ultimately aiming to safeguard consumers and strengthen the integrity of the financial system.
