Defense Minister Rajnath Singh Engages with Global Women Peacekeepers in New Delhi
On August 22, 2025, India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh engaged with women military officers from 15 countries participating in the United Nations Women Military Officers Course (UNWMOC-2025) in New Delhi, aimed at enhancing the capacity of women in UN peacekeeping missions. Singh emphasized India’s role as the largest contributor to UN peacekeeping, advocating for women’s integration and leadership within military structures, and highlighted ongoing efforts to create policies that foster gender parity and inclusive leadership. The course serves as a vibrant platform for training, featuring diverse international participation and a curriculum covering critical aspects of modern peacekeeping, such as International Humanitarian Law and child protection in conflict. The Defense Minister also unveiled the UN Journal 2025, celebrating 75 years of Indian peacekeeping, and underscored the essential role of women peacekeepers, noting their ability to build trust within local communities and act as role models for future generations. This initiative not only reflects India’s commitment to global peace and security but also positions the country as a proponent of gender equality within military operations, reinforcing the belief that diversity is crucial for effective peacekeeping.
