On September 11, 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually flagged off the historic all-women tri-service circumnavigation sailing expedition, Samudra Pradakshina, from Mumbai’s Gateway of India. This groundbreaking mission, involving ten women officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force aboard the indigenous IASV Triveni, will cover over 26,000 nautical miles, crossing equators and navigating treacherous waters, and is expected to return by May 2026. The expedition symbolizes the empowerment of Indian women, military jointness, and India’s commitment to Aatmanirbhar Bharat, while also serving as an opportunity for cultural diplomacy during international port calls.
