Chinese National Arrested in UP for Illegal Border Crossing and Suspicion of Espionage.

On November 24, 2025, Indian border security forces arrested a 49-year-old Chinese national named Liu Qunjing at the Rupaidiha checkpost on the India-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district. Liu, a resident of China’s Hunan province, was caught after illegally crossing into India from Nepal. He was found videographing sensitive border areas without valid documents, raising suspicions of espionage. Authorities seized three mobile phones, one containing videos of strategic locations within Indian territory. Investigations revealed that Liu had also traveled to Pakistan, further intensifying concerns given the tense geopolitical climate. His inconsistent responses during interrogation, including claiming ignorance of English despite possessing an English-labeled map, added to the suspicion. The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) handed him over to local police, who registered a case under the Foreigners Act. This incident underscores India’s vigilance against covert Chinese activities along its borders amid ongoing security concerns.
