Army jawan arrested for girlfriend's murder over marriage pressure.
An Army jawan, identified as Naik Harshvardhan Singh alias Deepak Yadav, has been arrested in Prayagraj for the murder of his 17-year-old girlfriend, whose body was discovered buried in a secluded area after she went missing on November 10. The police reported that the accused, stationed in Patiala, was on leave for his own upcoming marriage, scheduled for November 30, when the victim pressured him to marry her instead. Following her disappearance, her parents lodged a kidnapping report, leading to a search that uncovered her body five days later, along with a schoolbag containing her belongings. Investigations revealed a series of Instagram communications between the couple, which indicated the victim’s insistence on marriage, reportedly leading Deepak to fear she might disrupt his impending wedding. After luring her to a secluded spot under the pretext of a meeting, he allegedly stabbed her and buried the body using a shovel found nearby. This tragic incident raises concerns about the pressures of societal expectations on relationships, especially regarding young individuals navigating emotional conflicts, and highlights the urgent need for addressing such issues within the community to prevent future occurrences.
