AICTE introduces defence technology curriculum for engineering students to boost indigenous capabilities.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has launched a model curriculum for engineering and technology undergraduate programs focused on defence technology, aiming to strengthen indigenous capabilities and prepare students for innovation in the defence sector. AICTE chairman Prof TG Sitharam emphasized the necessity of creating a talent pipeline to support India’s evolving defence landscape, driven by Atmanirbhar Bharat and technological advancements. The curriculum offers specialized knowledge in areas such as aeronautics, naval technologies, and cybersecurity, while fostering interdisciplinary learning and practical exposure. This initiative addresses the longstanding issue of industry-ready manpower in defence production, ultimately contributing to India’s ambition of becoming a global leader in defence technologies and enhancing national security.
