16,000 participants celebrate fitness and navy's role at Mumbai marathon.
Over 23,000 runners participated in the eighth edition of the Indian Oil-WNC Navy Half Marathon in Mumbai, a significant event aimed at promoting fitness, national unity, and public awareness of the Indian Navy’s role in maritime security. Flagged off by Bollywood actors Riteish Deshmukh and Suniel Shetty, along with Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, the marathon saw participants from all age groups, underscoring the Navy’s outreach efforts to connect with the community. Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of Naval Staff, emphasized the dual focus of the event on physical fitness and environmental consciousness, aligning with the Government of India’s Fit India Movement. The marathon not only celebrates athleticism but also honors the sacrifices of naval personnel, reinforcing the bond between the Navy and the city of Mumbai, where shipbuilding has historical significance.
