Western Command Marks 79th Raising Day Celebrating Valor and Legacy

The Western Command of the Indian Army celebrated its 79th Raising Day on September 15, 2025, at its headquarters in Chandimandir, marking a significant milestone alongside the 60th anniversary of India’s victory in the 1965 Indo-Pak war. Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, praised the dedication and selfless service of all ranks, highlighting their exemplary performance during Operation Sindoor and recent flood relief efforts in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab. The celebration included a solemn tribute to the fallen soldiers, with Lt Gen Mohit Wadhwa, Chief of Staff, laying a wreath at the Veer Smriti War Memorial. Established originally as the Delhi and East Punjab Command on September 15, 1947, the Western Command was renamed on January 20, 1948, and has since been pivotal in securing India’s western front, earning numerous gallantry awards, including 11 Param Vir Chakras. Known as the “Guardian of the Heartland of India,” the Command remains focused on modernization, technology adoption, realistic training, and integrated operations to maintain operational readiness against evolving threats along India’s western border. The celebrations reflect the Command’s enduring legacy of valor and commitment to national sovereignty.
