Vishvajit Sahay appointed as Controller General of Defence Accounts, enhancing financial oversight.

On November 1, 2025, Shri Vishvajit Sahay assumed the role of Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), bringing with him over three decades of experience in defence finance and public administration. A 1990-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), he has held key positions within the Government of India, including Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Department of Science and Technology. Concurrently, Shri Raj Kumar Arora, also a 1990-batch IDAS officer, took over as Financial Advisor (Defence Services) [FADS]. With extensive expertise in defence acquisition and financial management, Arora’s previous roles include Controller General of Defence Accounts and positions within the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Finance. The appointments of Sahay and Arora signify a strategic move to enhance financial oversight and administration within the Indian Defence sector. Their extensive backgrounds and experience are expected to contribute significantly to improving efficiency and transparency in defence financial management, which is crucial for India’s national security framework amid evolving geopolitical challenges. The leadership transition within the Defence Accounts Department not only reflects continuity in institutional knowledge but also aims at fostering a proactive approach to meet the demands of modern defence operations in India.
