Support HAL: TEJAS Crash Highlights Need for Enduring Commitment

Following the recent crash of a TEJAS fighter jet during a low-altitude aerobatic manoeuvre at the Dubai Air Show, both the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have reaffirmed their commitment to the indigenous aircraft program. HAL Chief DK Sunil emphasized that despite the crash being the second in the 24-year history of the TEJAS project, the aircraft boasts one of the best safety records globally, with no mechanical faults confirmed at this stage. The IAF has initiated a court of inquiry to thoroughly investigate the incident while maintaining confidence in the TEJAS, which is integral to India’s ambitious plans to enhance its fighter squadron strength by 2047. With targeted production ramp-ups and an export-focused strategy, the HAL is set to significantly contribute to India’s defense capabilities while navigating challenges related to supply chains and component sanctions. This incident underscores the broader significance of sustaining technological self-reliance and fostering a robust defense manufacturing ecosystem in India, essential for meeting strategic goals amid growing geopolitical complexities.
