PM Modi Praises Indian Navy Officers for Historic Global Voyage

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently commended two Indian Navy officers, Lieutenant Commanders Dilna K. and Rupa A., during his Mann Ki Baat radio programme for their remarkable achievement in successfully completing the Navika Sagar Parikrama II mission, which included an arduous eight-month journey that circumnavigated the globe and took them to Point Nemo, the most remote location on Earth. Aboard the Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini, the officers navigated through extreme weather conditions, including storms and freezing temperatures, and faced numerous challenges that tested their skills and resilience, including mechanical failures and harsh living conditions at sea. Throughout their expedition, they exemplified courage and determination, inspired by their familial backgrounds in the defense forces, and they engaged with various communities worldwide, showcasing India’s maritime capabilities. This expedition not only highlights the growing role of women in the Indian Armed Forces but also serves as a powerful testament to the spirit of adventure and the importance of teamwork, encouraging young women in India to pursue their dreams without boundaries. Both officers expressed how the journey transformed them, instilling a deep respect for nature and revealing their true potential amid adversity, thereby sending a strong message about the capabilities of women in traditionally male-dominated fields and contributing to India’s global maritime presence and scientific research.
