HC rules soldier’s death in hospital is service-related, ensures family pension.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ruled that the death of an Indian Army soldier, Pawan Kumar, in a civil hospital shortly after being treated at a military facility should be considered service-related. This decision allows his family to receive a special family pension rather than an ordinary one, despite the central government’s argument that the death was not attributable to military service. The court emphasized that Kumar’s illness arose during his service and was documented by military medical personnel. This ruling underscores the commitment to ensure that soldiers and their families are adequately compensated for sacrifices made during service, reinforcing the principle of support for military personnel and their dependents.
