ECHS benefits now cover Armed Forces cadets disabled in training accidents.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed the Supreme Court that Armed Forces cadets disabled due to training accidents will now be included in the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), ensuring they receive free medical care without any cost barrier. This decision, effective from August 29, follows the court’s observations on the urgent need to care for these cadets, who face significant risks during military training. The court also suggested developing a resettlement scheme for these individuals to help them reintegrate into civilian life. The government is expected to enhance insurance and ex-gratia amounts for these cadets to further support their rehabilitation.
