Delhi High Court directs Centre to assist detained Major Jaitly in UAE.
Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly has sought legal intervention from the Delhi High Court regarding her brother, Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has been detained in the UAE for over a year. Major Jaitly, a former Indian Army officer and veteran of UN peacekeeping missions, was reportedly abducted in September 2024. The Delhi High Court, upon hearing Jaitly’s plea, has directed the Ministry of External Affairs to file a status report and appoint a nodal officer to oversee his welfare and facilitate communication between him and his family. Celina expressed gratitude for the court’s decision, emphasizing the need for protective measures for Indian soldiers abroad, who she argues have increasingly become targets. This case not only highlights the plight of Indian citizens facing legal troubles overseas but also underscores the government’s responsibility to safeguard the rights and welfare of its veterans in foreign jurisdictions. The court’s involvement may pave the way for greater accountability and support for Indian citizens detained abroad, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to its service members and their families.
