Army Chief honors iconic sportspersons with Lifetime Achievement Awards at Army Sports Conclave.
On November 4, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi honored three iconic Indian sportspersons with the Lifetime Achievement Award during the ongoing Army Sports Conclave, recognizing their extraordinary contributions to Indian sports and the nation. Among the recipients, Colonel Balbir Singh Kular (Retd), a legend in Indian hockey, was pivotal in India’s successes at the 1966 Asian Games and 1968 Olympics. Subedar Murlikant Petkar (Retd), India’s first Paralympic Gold Medallist, exemplified resilience by overcoming injury from the 1965 Indo-Pak war to win Gold at the 1972 Paralympics. Additionally, Sub Maj (Hony Capt) Vijay Kumar, a distinguished marksman, earned acclaim with his Silver at the 2012 London Olympics. This recognition underscores the vital role of sports in fostering national pride and inspiring future generations within the armed forces and beyond.
