US $686M F-16 Aid to Pakistan Reflects Heavy PAF Losses

The United States Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has approved a $686 million sustainment and modernisation package for Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jet fleet. The package, announced in early December 2025, includes advanced sensors, avionics upgrades, cryptographic modules, software updates, Link-16 tactical data link systems for 92 aircraft, spare parts, and comprehensive logistical support from Lockheed Martin. The deal aims to extend the operational life of Pakistan’s F-16 fleet through 2040, covering both Block 15 and Block 52 variants. Indian military analysts attribute the package to Pakistan’s significant losses during Operation Sindoor in May 2025, when Indian forces conducted precision strikes against militant infrastructure. India’s Air Chief Marshal stated that Pakistani forces lost at least four to five F-16 fighter jets, one C-130 transport aircraft, and one AEW&C aircraft, along with damaged radars, command centres, and hangars across multiple air bases. The DSCA maintains the package supports counterterrorism operations and does not alter the regional military balance.
