U.S. and Indian navies enhance interoperability through joint training near Diego Garcia.

The U.S. and Indian navies conducted a bilateral training exercise near Diego Garcia from October 22 to 28, 2025, involving their maritime patrol aircraft, the U.S. Navy’s P-8A Poseidon and the Indian Navy’s P-8I. The week-long exercise focused on antisubmarine warfare (ASW) and maritime domain awareness to enhance coordination and interoperability between the two forces. After the arrival of the Indian P-8I, crews from both navies collaborated on operational planning, information sharing, and conducted combined flight and communication exercises. This training builds on previous joint exercises, such as Tiger Triumph 2025, and reflects the strong U.S.-India strategic partnership founded on shared democratic values and a commitment to regional security. The engagement underscores both countries’ resolve to maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific, addressing traditional and emerging maritime threats. The exercise also showcased the role of the U.S. 7th Fleet’s Patrol Squadron 4 as a command and control hub for maritime reconnaissance, reinforcing joint defense capabilities in a dynamically evolving geopolitical environment. This collaboration strengthens India’s maritime defense posture and regional security cooperation.
