Pakistan plans underground airbase shelters after losses from India's Operation Sindoor.

In response to significant losses during India’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted key Pakistan Air Force (PAF) airbases, Pakistan is reportedly considering the construction of underground airbase facilities to enhance the survivability of its combat aircraft. The operation led to the destruction of critical assets, including a Saab 2000 AWACS and multiple F-16s, revealing vulnerabilities in the PAF’s infrastructure. While underground facilities could protect aircraft from aerial attacks, economic constraints may hinder their development. This strategic shift underscores Pakistan’s intent to preserve its air power against India’s demonstrated military capabilities, highlighting the ongoing arms race and the critical importance of hardened defenses in modern warfare, as well as the need for resilient infrastructure to mitigate threats in future conflicts.
