India's Operation Sindoor: Two Saab 2000 AWACS Downed, Major Setback for Pakistan

In May 2025, during Operation Sindoor, the Indian Air Force dealt a significant blow to the Pakistan Air Force, downing two Saab 2000 AWACS aircraft valued at $340 million, overshadowing the loss of older fighter jets. The operation showcased India’s advanced capabilities, utilizing BrahMos and S-400 systems for precision strikes, exposing Pakistan’s vulnerabilities in air defense. While the loss of multiple F-16s and JF-17s was operationally impactful, it was the strategic defeat of the AWACS platforms that severely impaired Pakistan’s air command structure. This operation highlights India’s growing military prowess and underscores the critical importance of advanced aerial surveillance in modern warfare.
