India-Maldives EKUVERIN military exercise begins in Kerala, enhancing regional security cooperation.

The 14th edition of the India-Maldives joint military exercise EKUVERIN commenced in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, focusing on counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations across diverse terrains. Running from December 2-15, the exercise involves 45 personnel from the Indian Army’s GARHWAL RIFLES and an equal contingent from the Maldives National Defence Force. This initiative underscores India’s commitment to its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, enhancing military cooperation and interoperability in response to shared regional security challenges. The recent strengthening of ties, highlighted by PM Modi’s visit to the Maldives and a significant financial aid package, reflects both nations’ dedication to regional peace and stability in the Indian Ocean.
