India has achieved over 93% border fencing with Pakistan to enhance security.

India has made substantial progress in securing its borders, achieving over 93% fencing along the 2,289.66 km India-Pakistan International Border, with 2,135.136 km completed as of December 16, 2025, leaving only 154.524 km unfenced, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai informed the Lok Sabha. Along the 4,096.70 km India-Bangladesh border, nearly 79% or 3,239.92 km is fenced, while 856.778 km remains pending due to challenges like land acquisition delays in West Bengal, where the state government has not handed over land despite central payments for significant stretches. This fencing drive, a cornerstone of India’s strategy to prevent infiltration and bolster national security, underscores the Centre’s commitment to safeguarding sovereignty amid complex terrain and coordination issues with neighbors.
