IAF readies helicopters for rescue as J&K cloudburst toll hits 60
Following a devastating cloudburst in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has placed helicopters on standby to assist with ongoing rescue efforts, as the death toll has risen to 60 and over 100 individuals have been injured. The IAF is prepared to deploy two Mi-17 helicopters and one Advanced Light Helicopter as soon as weather permits. Concurrently, the Indian Army has initiated a coordinated humanitarian response alongside local authorities, mobilizing rescue teams despite challenging conditions, including rising water levels and debris. These teams are actively searching for missing persons and have been using specialist gear to evacuate stranded civilians, providing them with essential supplies such as food, water, and medical assistance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged full support from the Centre to aid the ongoing relief efforts.
