IAF Joins Dubai Investigation into Tejas Crash, Ensuring Transparency
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has actively joined the investigation into the Tejas fighter jet crash that occurred on November 15, 2025, during an aerobatic display at the Dubai Airshow. An IAF officer has been dispatched to Dubai to participate in the inquiry conducted by local aviation authorities, ensuring direct Indian involvement in determining the cause. The pilot, Wing Commander Namansh Syal, tragically lost his life, and his mortal remains were brought back to India on November 16. The inquiry will closely analyze data from the fighter’s flight data recorder (black box) to reconstruct events, considering possibilities such as pilot blackout due to negative G-forces, engine failure, or control malfunction. This crash marks the second involving the indigenous Tejas Mark-1 since July 2016, raising strategic concerns about operational reliability amid ongoing induction and export ambitions. The IAF has not grounded its Tejas fleet but is closely monitoring safety. The case carries geopolitical weight, impacting India’s defense export drive and regional strategic positioning amid India-Pakistan tensions.
