China enhances Type 99B tank for Tibet amid India's Zorawar debut.

China has upgraded its Type 99B high-altitude light battle tank with enhanced information-based command, communication capabilities, integrated firepower, upgraded blast-reactive armor, 360-degree crew vision systems, next-generation thermal optics, advanced fire control, and new photoelectric sensors for battlefield awareness, targeting deployment in Tibet’s challenging terrains. This third-generation tank, weighing approximately 55 tonnes, features a 125mm main gun, heavy armor, passive and active protection systems, and a 1,500-horsepower engine for superior mobility rivaling Western designs. The move follows India’s unveiling of the indigenous Zorawar light tank, a 25-tonne platform named after Dogra warrior General Zorawar Singh, equipped with a 105mm gun, anti-tank missiles, AI-enabled systems, anti-drone measures, amphibious capability, and high power-to-weight ratio for mountain warfare along the border. These parallel advancements signal intensified military competition in high-altitude regions.
