Zelenskyy urgently requests US Patriot systems to defend against Russian attacks on Ukraine's power grid.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed the urgent need for 25 Patriot air defense systems from the United States to counter escalating Russian aerial attacks on Ukraine’s power grid, which have resulted in nationwide blackouts as winter approaches. Acknowledging the systems’ high costs and lengthy manufacturing times, Zelenskyy suggested that European allies could assist by transferring their existing Patriots to Ukraine. Russian forces are increasingly targeting energy infrastructure with coordinated drone and missile strikes, intensifying their assault in regions like Pokrovsk, where troop concentrations are significant. The situation underscores the critical need for robust air defense capabilities as NATO partners continue to supply military aid amid a challenging security landscape.
