USS Gerald R. Ford Deployed for Counter-Narcotics in Latin America
On November 11, 2025, the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), the newest U.S. aircraft carrier, commenced operations within the U.S. Southern Command’s jurisdiction to enhance counter-narcotics efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean. This strategic shift from previous deployments in Europe and the Middle East aims to disrupt transnational criminal networks threatening U.S. homeland security. The carrier group, equipped with advanced air assets including F/A-18 Super Hornets, will bolster regional operational capabilities, improving detection and interdiction of illicit activities. This deployment underscores the U.S. commitment to maritime security and stability in the Western Hemisphere, particularly in light of ongoing threats from organizations exploiting shared borders and maritime domains.
