Trump Indicates Upcoming India-US Trade Deal with Tariff Cuts

President Trump has signaled an imminent trade deal with India, indicating potential tariff reductions as India scales back its Russian oil imports. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal expressed optimism about the negotiations, emphasizing the complexity of the discussions surrounding market access, digital trade, and intellectual property. With five rounds of talks completed and a target to significantly boost bilateral trade from USD 191 billion to USD 500 billion by 2030, both countries are keen on finalizing a transformative trade pact that enhances economic cooperation and strategic alignment, particularly in high-tech sectors like defense technology and renewable energy. This ongoing dialogue underscores the strengthening ties between the two democracies, aimed at enhancing supply chain resilience and trade predictability.
