Taiwan Coast Guard Intercepts Chinese Vessels Near Dongsha Island

Taiwan’s Coast Guard recently intercepted Chinese vessels near Dongsha Island, responding to incursions that heightened maritime tensions in the South China Sea. A Chinese coast guard ship was monitored for nearly 24 hours before leaving, followed by the interception of a Chinese fishing boat within Taiwan’s restricted waters. This incident coincided with China’s announcement of a national nature reserve at Scarborough Shoal, a move seen as an assertion of control over contested areas. Taiwan condemned these provocations, reiterating its commitment to defending national sovereignty and maintaining regional stability amidst China’s aggressive tactics, which threaten to destabilize security in the Indo-Pacific.
