Sweden hosts NATO conference to enhance civil-military cooperation among allies.

From November 3 to 5, 2025, Sweden hosted a NATO conference in Stockholm focused on civil defence, aimed at enhancing civil-military cooperation among allied nations. Led by Sweden’s Defence Ministers, the conference followed the June 2025 NATO Summit’s directive to bolster civilian planning to support overall defence strategies, particularly in light of heightened threats from Russia. Sweden’s allocation of approximately $3.9 billion for civil defence underscores its commitment to integrating military and civilian efforts effectively, exemplified by its total defence model and reinstated conscription service. This initiative reflects a pivotal step in strengthening NATO’s collective security, emphasizing the importance of civil preparedness in addressing contemporary security challenges.
