Sri Lankan PM Amarasuriya Praises Flourishing India-Sri Lanka Relations

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya concluded a three-day official visit to India from October 16 to 18, 2025, marking her first trip since assuming office. During her stay in New Delhi, she held high-level discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, focusing on deepening cooperation in trade, education, technology, maritime security, and sustainable development. A key highlight was addressing the ongoing sensitive fishermen dispute in the Palk Strait, with both sides emphasizing dialogue to protect livelihoods and foster regional stability. Amarasuriya also visited her alma mater Hindu College, IIT Delhi, and NITI Aayog to explore collaboration opportunities. The visit reinforced India’s commitment to Sri Lanka as a strategic partner in regional supply chains and India’s “Viksit Bharat” vision, signaling growing bilateral ties anchored in mutual trust and development cooperation.
