Geopolitics and Security Alliances

Russia criticizes U.S. military actions in Caribbean, supports Venezuela.

Russia’s foreign ministry has condemned the United States for its “excessive military force” in the Caribbean, which is part of a broader anti-drug trafficking initiative, while reaffirming its support for Venezuela’s government. Spokesperson Maria Zakharova criticized the U.S. actions as violations of domestic law and international norms, citing the targeting of boats leading to fatalities. This comes amidst heightened U.S. military presence in the region, including warships and aircraft. The significance of this statement reflects ongoing geopolitical tensions, with Russia’s backing of Venezuela illustrating its intent to counter U.S. influence in Latin America, thereby reinforcing alliances that challenge Western dominance in global affairs.
